Day 15 – Camp Verde to Phoenix, AZ

Not a lot to report today as we made our way from Camp Verde to Phoenix, AZ.

We stopped at a couple of places and but basically, we drove to Phoenix as we are flying home tomorrow.

Flying home to rain and here the temperature is just going up with no rain in sight.

Ah well, it will be good to sleep in one’s own bed tomorrow night.

But I do have a story to tell.

Here is the process to go to the airport here.

I booked our flight and it was leaving at 7:45 am to arrive in Victoria at 11:50 am so we would be home just after lunch.

The easiest thing to do is to book a room at an airport hotel the night before the flight. Then come to the hotel and drop off all our stuff. Clean out the car and make sure we haven’t left anything behind.

Then we head over to the car rental place and drop off the car.

From there you catch the shuttle to the airport and then the hotel will send another shuttle to pick you up from there.

It’s a process, but it works.

So after completing all the steps, we get back to the hotel and while Rob is doing his laundry (yes he can do laundry) I decided to print off our tickets so we didn’t need to go up to the counter in the morning.

Checking to see why Delta hadn’t sent us an email that normally comes 24 hours in advance so you can do an online check-in and almost burst into tears.

I had mixed up AM and PM!

Our flight was due to leave at 7:45 pm and get into Victoria at 11:50 pm. I could have cried.

First, we wanted to get home during the day, not in the middle of the night and if the middle of the night, we would have wanted to keep the car so we would have had an extra day.

So, I phone the car company, but once you hand in the car it’s a done deal. You would have to rent another one again.

Rob, bless his heart never got mad or yelled but went down to see what time we had to check out.  Check out time was 1 pm so what were we going to do for the next 4 hours?

I looked online for flights and found one that left at 12:20 am and arrived in Victoria at 4:12 pm. Called the airlines who for a fee, changed our booking to the earlier flight. So much for saving money on the flight back home.

But… the good news is, we don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn or even before dawn to catch a plane and will arrive home while it is still light outside to get firewood to light up the woodstove. Brrr

Hope you enjoyed our travels.

Until next time…
